Sun’s out… so let’s take maths outside ☀️

I love this one for the garden or playground. Set up a grid on A3, split into teams, and have children relay back and forth - they complete one question per turn. First team to finish feels like the winner… but actually, it’s the team with the most correct answers that takes it 👀 so speed doesn’t always win.

What I really like is how flexible it is. Children can choose the questions that feel right for them, and they’re often working things out in their heads while waiting for their turn - so everyone stays involved.

I'll be playing this with my Year 3 group this afternoon. If I had one wish for Y3/4 maths (especially for those heading towards 11+), it’s fast, accurate arithmetic before the real stretch of Year 5 begins.
