Summer writing competition for local children aged 5-11!
Write a story or poem set in either Knighton Woods or Epping Forest.

Closing date: Saturday 17th August
Winners announced: Friday 23rd August

Winner and runner up prizes in each of two categories: age 5-7; age 8-11
1st prize - £25 book voucher and a free one-hour group class with Mrs Osh (worth over £20)
Runner up prize – awesome stationery set
This summer, get out into our local woods and dream up a story or poem to share. We live in such a beautiful place – wouldn’t it be wonderful to imagine something magical that happens there? You can write in any genre you like – adventure, fantasy, poetry, mystery or even horror!

How to enter
Your poem or story must not be longer than 250 words and you must have written it all yourself. No help from parents or big brothers or sisters allowed! Type it up (or ask an adult to help with that part) and email to [email protected] by Saturday 17th August. Remember to tell me your name and age!

How it will be judged
First and foremost, your writing will be judged on enjoyment. Consider your reader – will they be entertained? What will make them want to keep reading? Would they love it enough to share it with other people? The purpose of writing is to share our stories, so keep the reader in mind while you write – how do you want them to feel? Depending on age, the judges will also be looking for some great vocabulary and imagery to bring your writing alive. Lastly, the judges will be keen to know you have tried your best to use the correct spellings, grammar and punctuation – so give that your full attention too.

The judges will be three local A level students of English. They all love to read and write creatively and can’t wait to see what you can create!
