After graduating from the University of Manchester. I began a career in publishing and by the time I started a family in my early 30s, I had enjoyed the roles of both Editor and Publisher and completed an MBA around my full-time job.
However, I had long held a desire to teach and retrained in the outstanding school that my children attended. Alongside my class teacher responsibilities, I took on the role of Reading Coordinator and English Subject Leader. I have organised Book Weeks, set up successful reading incentives, run book clubs for both children and staff, and trained colleagues in new reading and writing programmes. I am experienced in preparing children for both Year 6 and Year 2 SATs and 11+ entrance exams, and am also a Year 6 SATs marker. I cannot adequately express the joy of a child rushing to tell me that they have finished a book and wanting to tell me about it – particularly those who had previously read only reluctantly. I also take great pleasure in enabling children to find their voice as a writer and grow in confidence in maths. I remain an avid reader of children’s fiction which helps me to confidently recommend books to children. I have two children, both of whom I tutored successfully to sit their 11+ exams. They live with me and my husband and our dog, Bruno and cat, Kitkat. |
